Any vine that can grow up something that is solid (like a wall or a rock) can harm foundation or siding. That's because that type of vine has little suction cup-like things on them that they use to hold onto the rock. Those can rot wood and made pits in rock.

So if you want to be on the safe side, get a trellis! Then you can plant almost any vine. Clematis, morning glory, and scarlet runner bean are my faves.
Reply:nooooo don't use morning glory, thats not attractive at all. Morning glory dies off everyyear, its not very attractive after a few years. it would grow trellised, but not as well growing up the straight wall. Virgina creeper would grow, quite well but, its an extremely vigorous plant that wont die if you want it too. I would recommend english ivy, its extremely attractive against a stone backdrop. it wouldn't be good for siding though, and any climbing vine wont work for you if you want your siding perfect.
Reply:Go to the nursery near you they be your best bet and you can see in person which one you like better! This dosen't mean you need to buy it there but it will give you up close info! Also did you know you put this question up 2 times?! lol Good luck!
Reply:Definitely stay away from any member of the ivy family- they will take the paint off your house and are very difficult to kill. Ask a certified nurseryman about this and make sure that it is a vine that does not send out runners under the soil, or you will have this vine everywhere you don't want it. I would go with Morning Glory, which you can grow from a pack of seeds. If you don't like it after a few years, you can just cut it down and use round up to kill the roots. It is a fairly hardy plant and takes direct sun, but also survives in shade. Very pretty flowers, only last a day, then more bloom the next day. Many different colors, too.
