It grows as a common weed in Miami and every year there are stories of people who die from them.
The most common way people die is to drill holes in them to make a necklace. The dust from the drilling often kills within the day.
On the other hand children often swallow them and as long as the shell is not broken there is no harm done, as the shell is very tough and the poison is within the seed.
