Why are the cucumbers falling off the vine while still small?

Insect infestation, uneven watering (usually not the problem), and poor soil are usually the culprits. Sometimes severe swings in air temperature can lead to this problem, although this is usually not the case. Insects and/or poor soil are the likely suspects. Spray for bugs and apply fertilizer, and you should have more cucumbers than you can deal with.

Good luck with your gardening.

How and when do you prune a vine to train it to grow over a pergola?

What kind of vine? Different types of plants get pruned in different ways and at different times of the year.

How and when do you prune a vine to train it to grow over a pergola?
just weave it around the pergola you don't have to prune it it will need something like wire or rope to grab on to though
Reply:If you are only just starting to train this vine then you should not need to prune it at all. You simply need to guide the vine around the pergola until such a time as it has completely covered the area that you need. After that as the previous answer said it depends on the vine as to when to prune it. However, you should have a good few years at least to find this out if it is a new plant.

I cut my concord or muscadine grape vine (they are entwined) and now it is dripping. I have tried everything?

from wood glue to a band-aid.......Help!

I cut my concord or muscadine grape vine (they are entwined) and now it is dripping. I have tried everything?
You might think its silly but I'd use duct tape, it'll hold anything. The cut may heal if you mend it with the tape as best as you can, water it and hope for the best. It may just have to drip until it can heal the wound. If it can't heal, then maybe a new shoot will come up from the root to replace that vine. Sorry.

Could ethanol be made from the Kudzu vine?

Kudzu grows wild all over the Southern U.S., and has proven very difficult to get rid of. Why don't we capitalize on this and try to make ethanol out of it? It's not like the stuff isn't renewable enough!

Could ethanol be made from the Kudzu vine?
I wondered the same thing about Japanese Knotweed! It would be a great way to use these invasive species plants.

I belive breaking down the cellulose is the problem with the knotweed. Collecting might be a problem with kudzu. It's a great idea though if someone could make it work. Instead of using our "edible" plants we would use the plants we are trying to eliminate.
Reply:there is research going on now where using bacteria to break down the wood fibers, fuel alcohol is being made from waste that would otherwise be made into mulch. fuel alcohol is also being made from algae as well.
Reply:You can make ethanol out of any organic thing that decays, the question is the quality
Reply:That's a great idea. I wonder if that could be done. We would never run out of it.

How do you make wine from fresh vine grapes?

i want an easy recipe.

How do you make wine from fresh vine grapes?
Get the juice out of them. (crush them, even use a potato masher). If your grapes are red and you want red wine, leave the peels in there. If you want blush, strain them out. If your grapes are green, then it doesn't really matter, but for a clearer wine, strain the peels out. Then, add yeast. How much and what kind? well, if you're handy to a beer and wine kit store, ask the salesmand for wine yeast. If not, you can try with regular baker's yeast, but it takes much more (at least 100 grams for a 5 gallon bucket). Then you want to cover your bucket (assuming you ARE using a 5 gallon bucket) and leave it alone for a couple of months in a room where the temperature will constantly be around 20 degrees celcius. After, you will need to siphen the liquid out in order to leave the sediment on the bottom of the bucket, preferably into a big glass container (called a "carboy"). Leave it in there for as long as it takes (until there are no bubbles rising to the surface). Once there are no more bubbles (probably another couple of months), siphen it again (called "racking") to get it away from more sediments in the bottom. Now, you should stir vigorously for a few minutes about three times a day to take out the "fizz". Once this is done, you can bottle it or leave it a while longer, whatever floats your boat, though the longer the better, yet you don't want to loose too much alcohol through evaporation. At this point, you can drink it, but it will taste "raw", so it's best to leave it alone for a year or more. Remember the part about making sure there are no more bubbles rising? If you skipped this step and bottled your wine prematurely, you will be having bottles popping their corks in a few months as carbonation is still happening. Your wine kit store can provide you with a chemical you can add to kill the fermentation prior to bottling in order to prevent popping bottles, but myself I like to make it all natural.

That's the basics. I know you wanted a simple, short answer, but there are none if you want to make it correctly. You might want to check out www.homedistillers.org for nifty recipies.
Reply:You need a fruit press to extract the juice, and fermentation vessels.... and yeast, and sulfaites...
Reply:Watch "I Love Lucy" for a tutorial. Just know that it involves stepping on the grapes with your feet. Make sure you wash well before hand or you'll end up with "stinky" wine.
Reply:idk squish them!!

Do you agree that God is the Vine and we are his branches?

Yes, and as Jesus said, if you do not abide in him, you will be cut off from the vine. This proves that the "Once Saved, Always Saved" protestant teaching is false, otherwise you could not be cut off.

Some people promote a very attractive idea: All true Christians, regardless of how they live, have an absolute assurance of salvation, once they accept Jesus into their hearts as "their personal Lord and Savior." The problem is that this belief is contrary to the Bible %26amp; constant Christian teaching.

Recall this Scripture: "If we have died with him [in baptism; see Rom. 6:3-4] we shall also live with him; if we persevere we shall also reign with him" (2 Tim. 2:11-12). So, ff we do NOT persevere, we shall NOT reign with him. In other words, Christians can forfeit heaven. Jesus tells us, "He who endures to the end will be saved" (Matt. 24:13; cf. 25:31-46). Ergo, if you do not endure to the end, well........

The Bible makes it clear that Christians have a moral assurance of salvation (God will be true to his word and will grant salvation to those who have faith in Christ and are obedient to him [1 John 3:19-24]), but the Bible does NOT teach that Christians have a guarantee of heaven. There can be no absolute assurance of salvation. The Bible says, "See, then, the kindness and severity of God: severity toward those who fell, but God's kindness to you, provided you remain in his kindness, otherwise you too will be cut off" (Rom. 11:22-23; Matt. 18:21-35, 1 Cor. 15:1-2, 2 Pet. 2:20-21).

Do you agree that God is the Vine and we are his branches?
yes god is at the centre of everything and from him we have grown.
Reply:Only if we listen to his calling, listen to our hearts (God will speak through it) and truly show that we earnestly love our brothers and sisters by abandoning our pious talk and religious preaching and simply doing good deeds for others without thought. Just simply doing good deeds because you care about other people.
Reply:Actually, I feel more like a grape on His vine.

I'm plump and juicy and one day I will be smashed.
Reply:No we are fruits, which grown on holly tree of god and the human grows on it's branches and fall with time and go from this world.
Reply:YES.

Without the branches, the vine would die because there wouldn't be anything to provide it with sustenance.

God is the same. Without human belief and followers, we have seen many Gods throughout human history disappear and become figures of myth. The same will happen to our current flavor of God.
Reply:Yes I do most certainly agree. The blessings already are.
Reply:I do not believe in the existence of a supernatural being responsible for my creation. Thus, while the analogy is well-crafted, I have to disagree with it.

In the end, however, the point of the analogy may have some merit. Seeing all people(s) as distinct branches from a common vine shows that, while we as individuals and cultures are distinct, there exists common links among us that may help us as we explore the core of the human condition. Regardless of one's religious views, it is essential to the survival of all of us that we learn to live together and appreciate that our differences should not divide us when clearly so many of our interests are in common.

So, if I have to answer the question literally, I would say no, I do not agree, but if I am allowed to try to extricate what I will call the moral of the story from the religious method, I think that there is some use in it.
Reply:No, He is the seed, the root, and the stalk. We are the vine and the branches, and we all share in the fruits, even those who do not believe. I believe that because of the fact that rain belongs to the just and the unjust.
Reply:Yup, it says so in John 15:5 =)
Reply:Hi Rena,

Yes, I believe in the Bible %26amp; even though Christ was speaking metaphorically, as He often did, here in John 15:5, I think we are to think of God as our strength..."the Vine" and there are many branches, some of which are weak %26amp; not fruitful %26amp; will be cut off. We are to be fruitful by doing good works %26amp; trying to live a faithful life %26amp; thus be rewarded in the afterlife.

Reply:I believe you have the incorrect saying.

It's Jesus' saying which goes, ''I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.'

Hence, we are all vines and God is the gardener.

The saying goes on to say... 'He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.'

Hope this makes it clear.

And yes, I fully agree with it.

Somebody gave me a piece of grape vine, how do i make it grow or root?

don't really know if i put it in water or do i plant it in soil?

Somebody gave me a piece of grape vine, how do i make it grow or root?
I do the damp paper towel wrap most often, just wrapping it around the bottom of the plant where you need it to root. Sometimes even placing it into a small glass of water along with the paper towel. Put it in a shady place so the sun doesn't scorch it and don't move it if you don't have to. (Be sure if the sun does reach your grape vine that the leaves are not showing their underside, it will cause unneeded stress to the plant)

It should root for you within a few days or a week.

Have a willow nearby? Take a piece of willow and grind/cut it up and add to your water. This is a wonderful rooting trick! Or get some rooting compound at the store, dipping the stem into it and then wrapping with a paper towel, or putting it into water, or putting it into a 'rooting cube' you can buy at any plant store.

Once you see some healthy roots plant it in soil, don't be afraid to keep in water until yo have plenty of vigorous roots.
Reply:You might try this: Cut your branches into 6" section and use a rooting hormone on the thick end; then stick them in potting soil and vermiculite, keep them moist and they will root, giving you brand new plants. These are considered soft wood cuttings. I know a Master Gardener who has a vineyard he got from using this practice. Good luck!
Reply:Put it in water until roots begin to show. The more the better. Then plant it in soil.
Reply:1. wrap the bottom in damp paper towel. roots will begin to sprout.

2. put in dirt.

How do i tell if my passion vine fruits are edible?

This site tells about Passion Fruit (and there's a drawing).

http://www.crfg.org/pubs/ff/passionfruit...

It says (in part):

"Harvest: The fruit will quickly turn from green to deep purple (or yellow) when ripe and then fall to the ground within a few days. They can either be picked when they change color or gathered from the ground each day. To store passion fruit, wash and dry them gently and place them in bags. They should last 2 to 3 weeks at 50° F. The fruit is sweetest when slightly shriveled. Both the fruit and the juice freeze well. The flavor of passion fruit blends well with citrus and many other fruit flavors, and is quickly appreciated by many people as they become familiar with it."

Which country has the most land under vine? Also which country produces the largest quantity of wine?

Lots of different answers here.

The worlds largest wine producer is Italy, followed by France, Italy, Spain, USA and Australia. The first 3 account for just over 50% of entire world wine production.

Most land under vines is dificult, and not too meaningful as grape vines can be planted very close or far apart, but its likely to be Italy as Italy produces the most grapes, followed by France and USA.

But not all these grapes are used to make wine. Some go to making brandy or for food, fruit juices, jelly and sweetening in other products, hence the discrepency between production of grapes and wine

These figures come Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin (OIV) and can be seen at http://www.winebiz.com.au/statistics/wor...

(the person who said South Africa may not realise although the country is huge, wine is grown only in a relatively small area at the very southern tip. Much of SA is unsuitable for wine growing.)

THanks to everyone. I found a rosary vine on e-bay.It's true you can find anything there.?

Be very careful. The rosary pea is very deadly.

It grows as a common weed in Miami and every year there are stories of people who die from them.

The most common way people die is to drill holes in them to make a necklace. The dust from the drilling often kills within the day.

On the other hand children often swallow them and as long as the shell is not broken there is no harm done, as the shell is very tough and the poison is within the seed.

Reply:Now is the perfect time of year to do this...all vegetation is getting ready to shut down for the winter.

Dig up as much of the root ball as you can physically handle. If it is an old vine, the ball will be bigger. And the more feeder roots you leave intact, the better for the plant.

Dig the new hole as deep as necessary to cover the root ball completely, and wide enough to lay out the feeder roots around the root ball.

The very best place to site a concord grape vine is in direct sunlight, with well drained soil, and a support to climb on. I have my grapes growing on the west side of my shed (only because the south side is where the doorway is).

I've also heard that mustard plants are very good natural food for the grape plant, and that vintners will plant these between their rows of grapes. When full grown they will be turned under so that their nutrients feed the growing grapes.

HOW do I kill Morning Glories the vine???

My problem with morning glory is the seed. Spitfyre is right, frost will kill them dead. However, have found that the seed remains viable (alive) for years. If that is your problem, this is how I handled it.

In the early spring, I would treat the area with a pre-emergent herbicide (it keeps seeds from germinating, brand name: Preen, although there are others), I would increase (slightly) the application strength. Reapply in the early summer.

If any seedlings emerge, pick them early and often. I literally went into the garden every other day, and just picked as many as the little buggers out as I had time to. I ran out of patients before I ran out of Morning Glory, so I would revisit the chore later. Just keep doing it.

Monitor the situation for a few years... it won't go away after one.

There is a more serious/ insidious weed called Bind Weed. It's related to morning glory, with a smaller, white flower. It is much, much, much worse. I would treat that with a chemical spray such as round up, rather than pulling or digging.

I hope that this helps

Good luck-

HOW do I kill Morning Glories the vine???
You have to pull them out at the root. And make sure to get all the vines or they will just keep coming back.
Reply:If there are no other plants nearby, you can use Roundup. It is a systemic herbicide that will kill the plant, root and all. You can use cardboard to protect other plants, and don't need to spray the entire plant. It may take more than one application, but it will work.
Reply:well, unless you live in a tropical region where it never freezes then all you have to do is pull the vines because Morning Glories are annuals. As long as you don't let them go to seed then you will get rid of the problem.

Good Luck

I picked my habanero pepper off the vine about 10 days ago and it's getting squishy. Is it still ok to eat?

It's definitely on its way out. I have found that a little softness is not bad, but if it's oozing anything, or looks runny, already-cooked or snotty when you cut it, then don't use it.

I know they taste better, but are vine ripened fruits and veggies better for you ...?

than those that ripen "on the shelf"?

I know they taste better, but are vine ripened fruits and veggies better for you ...?
As far as fruits and veggies are concerned, the fresher the better. Vine ripened are better for you nutritionally in several ways. First, veggies begin to loose some of their nutritional content (ie vitamins and minerals) as soon as they are taken from the vine. Therefore, if they've been sitting on a shelf for a week or more, they just don't have the same nutritional content.

The second, and maybe most important way that they are better fresh is just as you mentioned: they taste better! I know, personally, that I am much more likely to get all my daily recommended servings of fruits/veggies if they taste yummy. I hate buying the tomatoes, etc. from the store that look red and ripe but taste so bland that I don't even want to eat them!
Reply:I'd say they'd probably be better fresh picked, that way all the vitamin stay inside.. the ones in can's and things like that, their all chopped up and probably lose a lot of their natural juice's.. so i'd say fresh picked is better..

The Tree of Life is an important symbol in nearly every culture. With its branches reaching into the sky, and roots deep in the earth, it dwells in three worlds- a link between heaven, the earth, and the underworld, uniting above and below.

Tree, represents spiritual growth, as well as the human nervous system.

Do i need to prune my grape vine?

The simple answer is yes. Now as to why, Grapes set flower buds on new growth very early in the spring. The resulting flower buds are what produces the grapes.

When: since grapes are mostly grown in areas that have some cold temperatures the best time of the year is in mid winter no later than February in zones 8 to zone 6.

How: remove all of the branches that are coming off of the primary branches. In other words there is the trunk then the branches that come off of the trunk, these are the primary branches. Those that originate from the primary are the secondary, from there are the tertiary branches. The tertiary and all secondary branches should be removed. This will leave a great deal of stored carbohydrates in the roots, trunk and primary branches to initiate and sustain new growth which produces the flowers.

im not sure how cool it gets there, but here in vegas we planted two Bouganvilla vines and they are 4 times the size they were when i planted them, i really dont know if the leaves will stay on them, but they flower beautifully, in pink, red, white, golden yellow and sort of an orange shade. the grow like mad, it gets down to freezing a few times here in the winter and it didnt hurt a neighbors plants so i think you would be ok, they love full sun, only downside i know of is they do have thorns. but if you dont have a small child trying to climb them you should be ok, mine are on a fence and growing up a trellis like porch roof support

Is it possible to grow a grape vine from seed?

I have not found the plants in nurseries in my area. Any suggestions on how to treat and plant the seeds?

Is it possible to grow a grape vine from seed?
To answer your question it is possible to grow a grapevine from seed. It is like crap shooting, however, you never what kind of grape you will wind up with. Grapevines like apple trees are mostly always started vegetatively by grafting or rooting cuttings from established varieties. Find a vineyard that will let you take cuttings or find a supplier that will sell you some plants. Using seeds will take you years and you may wind up with nothing.
Reply:yes you can, but not easily
Reply:no dont as it will not be what you want, best to take a cutting from a vine that has grapes, put it in peatmoss, water well and it will grow roots in about two months, then it will grow grapes in about three years ive grown many in my older years, have three hundred feet ofv ines with grapes
Reply:In the wild grape vines grow from seed.

Good fruiting vines are usually grafted or grown from cuttings

remember each variety is going to produce different tonnage - Concords and Niagara in Erie Co 8 ton avg seen as high as 14 tons per acre --compare to Chardenay - at .4 ton avg.
Reply:yes you can but to get the type of grape you want you will have to graft it on the vine growing vines from seeds is very hard many seeds will not germinate or they will die after germination it will take many to produce one vine and again you will have to graft a cutting from the type of vine you want to produce the type of grape you want
Reply:better and easier to grow it from the root of a grape vine. you probably could grow it from the seed but inside the house in controlled climate in the window sill. good luck
Reply:No, it is impossible to simply grow a grape vine from seed. You must have a vine to start with. You need to graft grape vines to get anything good. Growing grapes takes a few years. You must read about grafting. You could try mail order. Get a nursery catolog. some catologs will have grape vines.
Reply:well sory but how else are they made???? lol. but yeh... i have no idea on tips haha goodluck!

tomatoe sandwich ,blts , dice them up with onion garlic and hot peppers makes salsa , dice them and make tomatoe salad with italian dressing with onions and cukes . but what do you like to eat

What can I cook/make with four vine ripened tomatoes I need to use soon?
1. Gazpacho

2. Salsa

3. Spaghetti sauce.

4. Stuffed tomatoes

5. Make macaroni %26amp; cheese, and serve the sliced fresh tomatoes on the side with salt.

6. Most Indian food recipes involves overripe tomatoes.

Only FOUR tomatoes? I can eat all those in one sitting!
Reply:a ;little bit of salsa
Reply:Put a can of green beans in a frying pan and begin to heat it. Cut the tomato up in chunks and throw them in the pan with the green beans. Cook just 4-5 min until everything is heated thru, the tomato will be just lightly cooked.

Sliced tomato is also great on grilled cheese sandwiches.
Reply:AMMO FOR A CRAPPY SHOW
Reply:Make a spaghetti sauce.
Reply:Bruschetta

It's a great snack

Chop your tomatoes up

Add minced garlic, basil, olive oil and a little salt

Serve on toasted bread (baguettes are perfect for this)

You can rub a fresh garlic clove on the bread if you like (adds more flavor)

Fresh garlic and basil will taste best, but dried spices will work in a pinch

How do you care for a trumpet vine. I just planted it this spring will it flower this year?

Our trumpet vine didn't flower for 2 years but it was a very small one to start with. Now (15 years later) we're very sorry we planted it because volunteer vines are coming up all over the place, in the lawn and up to 30 feet away from the original plant! It even came up clear on the other side of a garage (thats a long way for a root to travel) Its vines worked their way inside the siding on our garage causing some water damage.

The blossoms fall off and make our lawn look sloppy and the flowers attract lots of ants and wasps. Don't plant it near a doorway or you'll have ants dropping on you when you enter or leave. Don't plant it in an area that children play because of the wasps. We've never seen a hummingbird at ours.

A friend planted hers at the base of a tree, it was rather pretty when it was mature and the vine was interspersed with the leaves of the tree, it made it look like a flowering tree.

In the midwest it flowers from late June till the first frost. It required no care other than watering it and giving it sunlight to make it grow but it does require care trimming it if it overgrows it's space and pulling out the unwanted volunteer vines. During the winter and early spring the vine looks quite dead so if you want it, don't mistake it for dead and pull it out. It suddenly greens up in late spring just when you think it must have died.

How do you care for a trumpet vine. I just planted it this spring will it flower this year?
These are no more than gloified weeds...feed once a month, keep damp, and they will grow and bloom profusely. Good luck
Reply:They must be in full sun (more than 6 hours per day) or they will just sit there in the shade. Be careful, they are invasive, like English Ivy, Japanese Honeysuckle and some bamboos. My neighbor grew it in the middle of a shared driveway where he could control its spread.
Reply:I doubt it will flower this year. My neighbor planted one between our yards about 4 years ago and he said it is supposed to take 2-3 years to bloom. There were 3-4 flowers last year. The best thing to do it call your local garden center/nursery for information.

They can tell you what is best for your area. It does spead like crazy. it has grown so much it keeps trying to climb our brick on the house.

Can I use the peppers on the vine when they are wrinkled?

I am going to dehydrate the serranos and jalapenos that I grew. Some of the ones out on the plants are kind of shriveled. I'm wondering if they're ok to go ahead and dehydrate or not.

Can I use the peppers on the vine when they are wrinkled?
Take a peek inside of them. If the seeds still look nice and white they should be ok...... Otherwise toss 'em.

I eat raw serranos and jalepenos ALL the time. Sometimes the shriveled ones contain icky black seeds....They tase bad.

Be sure to check!
Reply:Many times they are like that when ripe...they're OK.
Reply:Unless they're otherwise blemished, they should be fine. Sounds like they're on there way to dehydration on there own. RScott

Why isn't my black eye susan vine blooming and it is in full sun.?

Stops blooming in the heat of summer. Will resume blooming when slightly cooler weather returns.

Why isn't my black eye susan vine blooming and it is in full sun.?
Usually the only reason for this problem is that it's getting too much sun....yup that's possible. Black Eyed Susan vines like more of a dappled sunlight, not the bright strong afternoon sun.

To help a little if you don't want to move it from where it is, try giving it some fertilizer like Miracle Gro...That is all I use on my gardens and i swear by it...........GOOD LUCK!!

How do i take care of Vinca Vine?

a northern perspective (WI): vinca's grow well in full sun to part shade...can even survive in full shade...they're usually not too picky about soil...they'll grow in acid to alkaline soils... while you are trying to establish them, water every 3 days...after they're established, no watering required...no fertilization required...very easy to grow once established

How long before HDDVD withers on the vine now that another big studio has gone Blu-ray exclusive?
The war is over. Blu-ray won. The next few weeks will determine HD-DVD's fate. No one wants to be left "holding the bag". The HD-DVD camp has already decided to cancel their press conference at this years Consumer Electronics Show because of Warner Bros. announcement, yesterday.
Reply:blu-ray is the winner , hd-dvd just don't know it yet , soon universla pictures and paramount will joing the blue-train
Reply:Well at first I was on the HD DVD bandwagon because initially they had better video encoding. But since Blu-ray no longer uses MPEG-2 and instead uses AVC and VC-1 codecs the picture quality is now matching HD DVD so now it's only a matter of time before either the other remaining studios, Universal and Paramount either jump ship or are forced to do so when HD DVD goes the way of the BETA.

Do you prefer certified organic, home grown, vine ripened, farmer's market or hothouse tomatoes?

Organic or home grown (which is organic) by preference but I MUST get the goats out of the yard first!!!!!!!

Do you prefer certified organic, home grown, vine ripened, farmer's market or hothouse tomatoes?
I love wandering through a farmer's market. I love talking with the sellers, looking over their produce, making a "deal" if it is late in the market time, it makes us both happy, i get a good price, they don't have to haul it home.

It is a great way to try a lot of "heirloom" varieties. I love a tomato with a strong fragrance.
Reply:To be honest, I love all tomatoes. Actually my favorite are locally grown yellow tomatoes. They are wonderful but I will by organic, vine ripended, and hothouse. My wife grew tomatoes a few years ago but we had a late freeze that killed them. So for now we will stick with buying them I guess. I'm way too lazy to grow any myself. I love tomato sandwhiches best I think of anything you can do with them but I will eat them plain too.

Can you use any grapes on a vine to make wine in the uk??

You can make wine from any fruit. But be warned, you need a hell of a lot of grapes to make a gallon of wine, far easier to buy the concentrate. Used to make my own wine, but stopped because my wife kept drinking it.

Can you use any grapes on a vine to make wine in the uk??
Yes, assuming the "grapes" are fit for human consumption. Additionally you may want to confirm the composition of the grapes, to insure that they have sufficient sugar and acid to be able to produce wine. If not you can always add - what you are deficient in - including grape concentrate if necessary.
Reply:NO REASON WHY NOT .ESPECIALLY IF ITS BEEN A GOOD HOT SUMMER
Reply:you can make wine out of most things that are edible if it is fermented long enough!!!(mostly fruits but you can use t/bags,f-o/juice,etc.)

as for grapes grown in the uk if thats what your question is then yes!!!!!!

the uk is fast becoming a wine producing nation in it,s own right.

you do need a fair few vines though to make it worthwhile not just going to m%26amp;s and buying a £5.00 and then try to make it.

but your question is,not making any sense after reading it again.

any grape will make a wine no matter what country your in!!!!

any mixture of variety of grapes will make a wine!!!!

they don.t have to be on a vine!!! they just grow on a vine....

why not look in your local paper(evening or free)and they have societies that you can join and they will tell you all information needed.

The ends of my watermelons on the vine are turning black and mushy. What is causing this?

Blossom-end rot is a nonparasitic disease of tomato, pepper and watermelon. Losses can vary from a trace to more than 50 percent.

Symptoms

The first symptom is a slight water-soaked area on or near the blossom end of the fruit. The affected area soon darkens and enlarges in a constantly widening circle until the fruit begins to ripen. The tissues are dark and shrunken and have a dry, leathery appearance. With pepper the rot is tan in color and should not be confused with sunscald, which is white. The affected area may be merely a speck or it may involve half or more of the fruit (see illustration on tomato). Secondary microorganisms may grow on the decayed area.

Cause

Blossom end rot is caused by a lack of calcium in the developing fruit. This may be due to a lack of calcium uptake from the soil or to extreme fluctuations in water supply. Incidence of blossom-end rot is also increased where there is a low ratio of calcium to certain other nutrients such as potassium and nitrogen.

Control

Although the most desirable calcium levels for preventing blossom-end rot have not been determined, the application of lime to fields known to be low in calcium has helped to prevent the disease. Soil should be limed according to recommendations of soil analysis report, usually to pH 6.5-6.8. The use of gypsum (land plaster), at rates of 500 to 1000 pounds per acre (1 to 2 pounds per 100 square feet) as a supplement to liming on calcium deficient soils has proven beneficial. Lime and/or gypsum should be applied several months in advance of planting.

After tomatoes are planted, good results have been obtained by spraying foliage and stems with anhydrous calcium chloride (4 pounds per 100 gallons of water per acre) four times on a weekly schedule beginning when the second forms, or when symptoms first appear. Calcium chloride solutions are also available under several trade names for small scale garden use. Application in the same tank with fungicides and/or insecticides is suggested. This helps to rapidly place calcium directly where it is needed in the fruits. Do not exceed the recommended rate. Calcium chloride is suggested only for tomatoes. Application should be done while temperatures are cool in the morning

Since blossom-end rot is so closely related to extremes in the water supply, an important aid in control is to regulate moisture supply in the soil. Cultivation and hoeing can be avoided if proper weed-control chemicals are used. If cultivation is necessary, it should be shallow to avoid root pruning. Mulching, which serves to maintain an even supply of soil moisture, should be practiced where feasible. If irrigation of any kind can be used, it may prove profitable during hot, dry weather. To reemphasize, either an inadequate or excess moisture stress favors blossom-end rot development. In general, plants need at least one inch of water per week in the form of rain or supplemental irrigation.

Young plants should not be grown too quickly nor should the plants be subjected to severe "hardening-off" before transplanting. A steady growth rate as a seedling and in the field will discourage this trouble.

Removing affected fruits when symptoms are first observed may be worthwhile for subsequent development of other fruit on the plant. This is particularly recommended for tomatoes.

How do you ripen tomatoes on the vine still,?

cant seem to change the color from green

How do you ripen tomatoes on the vine still,?
Patience.

Or, if you have no patience (though this might take MORE patience!) pop a brown paper bag around each tomato on the vine, secure it with a tie-wrap, and leave it a few days. I think this has something to do with making the atmosphere around the fruit richer in carbon dioxide, but I'm not sure!
Reply:Leave it a lone. We will ripen no tomato before it's time.
Reply:Just be patient. It takes time. Are they getting enough sun?
Reply:It takes time . More patience is all that's needed. If you want to pick a few and put them on the window sill to ripen. have fun.
Reply:Wait for it. You will know by the red color. Check just once a day. There is no need to check any more than that.
Reply:You may have just gotten a green variety. If it isnt a "green variety" dont pick till red! Otherwise eat them green or make fried green tomatoes. They are actually delicious.
Reply:just leave them out at room temp. or take them off the vine.
Reply:Wait, be patient, water them and wait until the sun does its job. I am in the same boat as you are. In 2 weeks you should have red tomatoes.
Reply:pick them and place them in a window for a day or two
Reply:They have red plastic sheeting that is supposed to turn your tomatoes red in the garden stores and catalogs. You lay it down around your plants. I don't know why it works but they claim it gives richer redder colored tomatoes. The tomatoes will turn red by themselves when it is time and they will continue to turn red inside if you pick them a little green. About the time you give up, they will all turn red at once and then you will have plenty!!

Tell me about Renwood 2001 Zinfandel Old Vine?

I bought a magnum of it at a charity auction. When should I drink it? What do you suggest pairing it with? What is your review of the wine?

Tell me about Renwood 2001 Zinfandel Old Vine?
Renwood are one of the finest producers of Zinfandel. While this is not one of their most expensive ones, I think you'll find it a real treat. Wine in magnums age more slowly than in ordinary bottles, and I think you could enjoy this now or keep it for a further 5 years with no problem.

I suggest pairing it with a steak -- I find Zin and steak make a great pair. And invite some friends to help you enjoy it.

The winery has this info on that vintage and the medals etc it has won -- see http://www.renwood.com/ourwines.cfm?id=6...
Reply:Well, I would decant some of it and see if its drinkable because it's not the best.

If you can't drink it you can cook with it but a magnum is a lot of wine - you can put a cork in it and keep it in a dark closet and make a lot of Coq au vin and beef bourganion - you can make wine jelly too if you are a cooking person.

Oh, put a bunch of it in a pan and simmer for a hour or more to make a wine reduction - great on a lot of dishes and for sauces

Maybe it will turn to vinegar after time and that will be a good thing.

How can i start a passion flower vine from a clipping?
I have had great success rooting passion flowers in plain, moist sand in the shade. Sand is great for rooting things, because it holds moisture, but has less bacterial and fungal organisms than soil, or water. Spring and Fall are good times to root things, when it's cooler.

How do I get my strawberries to vine out instead of just growing tall?

They keep growing tall and get a few berries, but they don't spread and flower as much as they should. I know I need to prune them somehow, but not sure how.

How do I get my strawberries to vine out instead of just growing tall?
Sounds like you have Everbearing strawberries.

If you want the ones that reach out and plunk down "babies" nearby, you want to buy Junebearing.

Also, Everbearing flower more sporadically. Junebearing get all thier flowers and fruit happening at once, so it's like a strawberry-tsunami for 3-4 weeks. Everbearing spread their flowering over the course of the whole growing season. So fewer flowers at any one time, but flowers present for more of the summer.

OR - if this is the first year, and you just planted them - just give it a year. Next year you'll be flooded. I've always found them to be meager pickings the first year planted.

OR - they aren't getting enough sun. If they aren't, they'll live, but they won't produce as many flowers, with many plants eventually not flowering at all. My plants do very well with morning sun through about 1 or 2 o'clock, when they are shaded by a building. I have a friend who has strawberries that only get direct sun for 2-3 hours a day...and their production has been declining steadily for several years.
Reply:I would place a small clod of dirt on what looks like it could

be a runner. If they are not getting enough sun that could be a reason for the tall growth. I never knew of anyone pruning

there strawberries. Every 2 or 3 years they need to be reset

using new slips from your old plants. Try the small clod of

dirt and see how that works for you.

Good luck.

Consult "Rodale's All-New Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening", everything you need to know is there. Any serious gardener or plant worker should have this book. Of course I understand that reading books is taboo today, but they are still handy to have around.
Reply:it's best to buy a grape vine from a good reliable garden store. That way, it's already off to a good start, and you can be sure of the type / varietal you are getting. Also, word of caution, many broadleaf control herbicides are very damaging to grape vines, in particular one called 24D....if you are planting in a residential area, make sure your neighbors are not using 24D as even the overspray can kill grapes. good luck
Reply:You may have better luck starting with a plant; it will give it a better start. Check out WalMart even; they have them out now and are not really expensive. They tend to be hardier and more disease resistant. Give them sun and thorough watering and you shoiud have grapes in 2-3 years.
Reply:I don't know what part of the country you in, but start now..and use a Laddis for the vine to grow on......

Grapes like the sun and not much shade...
Reply:You are much better off starting with a bare root plant. Do a bit of research about what type of grapes do well in your area, there are plenty of websites that will assist you. Do you want them to be table grapes or wine grapes? The only other thing you need is something for them to grow on. Two poles with two pieces of whatever material you choose, one at the top and one in the middle, to support the plant. Grapes can get heavy, so a little piece of string will not do the job. I have seen some pretty elaborate devices for grape vines, and some very simple, so you have a wide range to choose from. They also need to be cut back a bit after they are done in the fall, once you have chosen the variety (varieties?) you want to go with, learn what that particular varieties needs are as far a water, soil and cutting back.
Reply:you can not plant grapes from seeds. you need a vine cutting. it has to be alive. it is trail and error. you have to put it in some water and see if it grows a root, if it doesn't you can buy a chemical that helps cuttings root, you can get it at lowes. if that doesn't work, then the cutting was dead, and you need a newer cutting. if you have one rooted plant it in part shade part sunny area with a lattace on top at about 5-7ft.
Reply:plant grapevines from the root cuttings. you can get these at most plant stores ,use root stimulator when planting. they need something to climb and full sun.
Reply:you need some support

Does anyone know of an annual flowering vine that can tolerate dog urine?

My boyfriend made a nice big kennel for his dogs. I want to plant something on the south side for shade (they have a big shed for shade too, this isn't the dog's only means) and privacy. Plus, I like trying new ideas and don't want something poisionus if they chew on the leaves. I love flowers, but don't want something that would hurt dogs. I live in Zone 4. Thanks!

Well, morning glories are so vigorous, they might fit the bill...

How do I get my passion flower vine to bloom?

I purchased it on eBay a couple of yrs. ago %26amp; planted it in my back yard in bright Texas sun, but it has never bloomed. They grow wild in direct sun in the fields here.

How do I get my passion flower vine to bloom?
Maybe it takes a good 2 years to establish the root system. Some things will not bloom the first and sometimes even second year. After 2 bloom seasons you should see something...
Reply:I don't know, but try looking on Burpees
Reply:In the spring, feed your passion flower vine with a bloomer, such as Miracle Gro 15-30-15. There is another food that will force it into bloom, such as 9-52-12. Make sure the middle number is higher than the other two.

Does anyone know if Silver Lace Vine will bloom okay in filtered to deep shade?

I have read several things , one says it needs full sun, others say sun to part shade, and a couple have said sun to shade. So I am confused as to how it would do underneath canopies of trees in filtered light.

Anyone have experience with this or know for sure?

Thanks for your answers!

Does anyone know if Silver Lace Vine will bloom okay in filtered to deep shade?
Polygonum aubertii - the Silver Lace Vine that you are asking about is a not-very-distant relative of Polygonum cuspidatum - Japanese Knotweed. The fact that silver lace vine can grow and produce its white blooms in shade makes planting it a temptation for gardeners not blessed with a sunny locale. But I would resist the temptation to grow this invasive species... I have two customers who were tempted and have regretted it ever since.... To answer your question, yes it will grow and flower in dappled shade - but it may take over your plot.

How to grow my small passion vine?

2.5 pot young passiflora Alata (Ruby Glow)

How to best grow in my hill country texas yard.

Preperation of soil, drainage

The Alata is not to hardy to this area so just not sure where best to plant it.

Thanks

How to grow my small passion vine?
The passion vine prefers a frost-free climate. There are some cultivars that can take temperatures into the upper 20's (F) without serious damage. The "Blue Passion Vine" is pretty cold hardy and salt tolerant but the plant does not grow well in intense summer heat. The yellow passion fruit is tropical and isn't fond of frost. The purple and yellow forms both need protection from the wind.

Care for the passion fruit vines requires full sun except during those very hot summer days, if possible provide some partial shade. The vine is a fast grower and can get out of hand, so if possible plant it next to a chain link fence or on a trellis.

Passion fruit vines grow in many soil types but make sure that the plant gets excellent drainage. If you want to keep the vines flowering almost continuously, regular water is necessary. The vines are shallow-rooted, and will benefit from a thick layer of organic mulch.

Passiflora vines are vigorous growers and require regular fertilizing. Stay away from just using a 20-20-20 liquid food. This may promote good growth but possibly too much green and not enough flower. Use a fertilizer with a ratio more along the lines of a 2-1-3.

Why isn't my Morning Glory vine getting flowers on it.?

They need plenty of sun, preferably from the South or East, and I have noticed that the only time of the day I actually see the blooms is in the morning, before I go to work. (Hence the name Morning Glory). Seems like any time past 10am, they are gone, like they didn't exsist at all. Give them time, and check them in the morning...they just might already be there.

Why isn't my Morning Glory vine getting flowers on it.?
r they in full sun ?

Did u fertilze with Nitrogen? that makes leaves but not flowers
Reply:Hi. I had this problem once myself. The seed would sprout and grow like crazy. I had them planted under a group of palmtrees where they could twine up the old branch pieces.

The problem was that they did not get enough sun to flower even though they were perfectly healthy.
Reply:Try more water. You might want to get the "feet" in the shade or under some mulch. I assume it is getting adequate sun.

Can I snip off my grape vine and grow another plant?

I have both Thomson and concord grape plants and was wondering how to get more independent growing plants.

Right now they are not in bloom. Zone11

Can I snip off my grape vine and grow another plant?
Yes, this is best done in early winter. Cut off about 2 feet and put in sandy soil about 6 to 8 inches deep. If your soil is not sandy, add about 50% sand and 50% soil. Do not let the soil dry out. You can get a rooting hormone to dip it in. Most garden centers and sometimes WalMart has this and sold by the name Rootone.

Can pumkins be ripened off the vine?

Depending on the size, but not very successfully as they are so hard...you might try putting one in a large polythene bag with a couple of apples, tie it shut and leave it for a couple of days. The Bay Laurel (Laurus nobilis, Lauraceae), also known as True Laurel, Sweet Bay, Grecian Laurel, Laurel, or Bay Tree, is an aromatic evergreen tree or large shrub reaching 10–18 m tall, native to the Mediterranean region.

The leaves are 6–12 cm long and 2–4 cm broad, with a characteristic finely serrated and wrinkled margin. It is dioecious, with male and female flowers on separate plants; each flower is pale yellow-green, about 1 cm diameter, borne in pairs together beside a leaf. The fruit is a small black berry about 1 cm long, containing a single seed.

[edit]Uses and symbolism

Bay Laurel is the source of the bay leaves which are used for their flavour in cooking. It was also the source of the laurel wreath of ancient Greece, and therefore the expression of "resting on one's laurels". A wreath of bay laurels was given as the prize at the Pythian Games because the games were in honor of Apollo and the laurel was one of his symbols ever since his unsuccessful persuit of Daphne. In the Bible, the sweet-bay is often an emblem of prosperity and fame. It is also the source of the word baccalaureate (laurel berry), and of poet laureate.

Some evidence from the medical literature supports Bay Laurel having these uses:

Antioxidative: Fitoterapia. 2003 Sep;74(6):613-6.

Analgesic and anti-inflammatory: Phytother Res. 2003 Aug;17(7):733-6.

Anticonvulsant (antiepileptic): Phytomedicine. 2002 Apr;9(3):212-6.

It is also widely cultivated as an ornamental plant in regions with mediterranean or oceanic climates, and as an indoor plant in colder regions.

What is the foti plant or vine?

Foti is supposed to restore the color of your hair even after long periods of graying

What is the foti plant or vine?
FO-TI PLANT also called as the "Elixir of Life," Fo-ti tonic is said to produce longevity, fertility and vitality. Taking Fo-ti is said to keep one vigorous and extends one's life span. It is a vine plant that grows well in a shady bed

Medicinal Uses: Fo-ti is said to have a root that grows as big as a football at times. It's reputation as a tonic has been touted as a substance to produce longevity, fertility and vitality. Today, many use it as an effective tool against high blood pressure and hardening of the veins and arteries. The component of Lecithin which is contained in Fo-ti helps to reduce arterial plaque and blood pressure. It has also been used for years as a folk remedy for darkening pre-mature gray hair.

The Fo-Ti plant is known as He Shou Wo in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Polygonum multiflorum in Latin, and Fleeceflower in the United Kingdom. The name "Fo-Ti" was given to a nutritional supplement for sale in North America that contained He Shou Wo, and has since become known as Fo-Ti in North America.

Fo-Ti is believed to help maintain healthy sexual function. Its mechanisms of action in this regard are unknown, but Fo-Ti does raise red blood cell counts in animal studies. Fo-Ti, as a source of anti-oxidants, boosts immune system function, red blood cell formation, maintenance of healthy cholesterol levels, and has anti bacterial properties.

Animal studies have shown that Fo-Ti may help maintain healthy memory function, and human studies have shown that Fo-Ti can act as a mild anti-inflammatory.

Most interestingly, Fo-Ti has been shown to contain protein-sugar complexes known as lectins (anthraquinones, phospholipids). It is also used as a treatment for constipation because of its laxative properties.

Fo-Ti supplementation may prove efficacious to women because of its ability to help normalize estrogen profile.

Everyone can benefit from supplementing with Fo-Ti because of its stellar safety profile, and its effects on immune function as outlined above.

How do I grow a grape vine form a branch?

What sort of branch should I plant? Can it be the part that the grapes are on?

How do I grow a grape vine form a branch?
In the spring when they are pruning the grapes, these pruning vines that are usually thrown away make okay cuttings. Make sure there are several nodes on your cutting. These will look like little bumps or knots on the branch. Also make sure there are no leaves on the part you are putting in the ground. Plant at least 4 inches deep and keep moist. I like to use gallon pots and part loamy and part sandy soil. Some people use a product called root-tone. It is a powder you dip the part your going to plant in before you put it in soil. I have used this with good results. Good Luck and Have Fun!!
Reply:cut off some of the vine then try to root it
Reply:Seems like you would need a fresh, young growing shoot in the early spring to root, then you would plant like normal.

What weed killer is best for vine-type weeds that grow up a chain-link fence?

I want something that will rid my fenceline of this annoying viney weed. It spreads quickly and I know if I didnt pull them out, they would take over the whole fence, as it did 20 years ago when my parents lived here. Should I use roundup? That really did a great job on ridding my yard of dandelions last year, with only one application to the roots of HUGE "systems" clumps of the lil effers.

see my other questions if you can help with more lawn/garden questions.

What weed killer is best for vine-type weeds that grow up a chain-link fence?
Round up will get the job done. Although it is a little strong for Dandelions. I use Ortho Weed-B-Gone and it does well without killing the grass.

I have seen people take a 6" wide piece of plastic, or rubber, or even brass and place it under the chain link fence. That way the grass and weeds won't grow and wrap around the fence, and there is no trimming either. You just run the lawnmower alongside the fence and it's all nice and neat. Big time saver. Think about it. good luck
Reply:roundup or killazall and also if you can buy it in your area,, 2,4-D is made just for broad leaf vegetation
Reply:Mix the Round Up a little stronger for vines. You can also take a sponge and wipe it on the leaves to kill the vine if you are afraid of over spray.

How do I propagate a honeysuckle vine?

Cut half way thru one of your softwood limbs and bury the wounded section in the ground by patting it down. You might put a little rooting hormone on the wound site; and it should root where you buried the cutting site. Make sure you have buds on the end exposed. It works like a charm!

How do I propagate a honeysuckle vine?
Take a cutting from the vine, preferably where the stem is slightly "woody," but not really thick. Get a packet of rooting powder (any nursery should have it for a couple of bucks), and dip the cut end into it. Press the cut end with the powder into a fresh pot of potting soil, and pack it around the cutting firmly. DO NOT USE GARDEN SOIL - it tends to have too many soil-borne pests for a new plant to cope with. Keep the cutting moist, but not wet, and give it bright but indirect light. After a couple of months, you should have a new plant ready to set out and grow.

Good luck!
Reply:Should be easy. Just cut off a length of the end, 3 nodes (where the leaves come out) long and stick it in a pot of well draining soil. Keep it moist. Should just start growing.

Or you can layer the vine. Pin down a node after removing the leaves. Cover it with some mulch. It should start rooting soon. Best to leave it alone for a few months.

Should not need any rooting compound. This is how the viney honeysuckels propagate themselves in the wild.

What is the right PH for vine harvest?

pH is one of the factors determining when to harvest but the main one is sugar determining potential alcohol.

"Generally, for dry white wines, fruit is harvested when the pH is 3.1 to 3.2 and the titratable acidity is about 0.75%. For dry red wines, fruit is harvested when the pH is 3.4 to 3.5 and the titratable acidity is about 0.65%."

How do you successfully grow a vine? Does it need any special soil/ growth treatments etc?
If you’re planting along a fence or a wall, you may need to improve the soil first. That’s especially true if you plant on the leeward side of the wall, which gets less rain than the windward side. Mix in plenty of organic matter, and mulch after planting to conserve moisture. For flowering vines, you may also want to add some bloom-boosting fertilizer to the soil.
Reply:you can grow a vine anywhere big prob is getting the grapes to come and then mature need right species for climate ask local nurseries they will give good advice
Reply:Buy a Villa in Italy with non limed soil, or send a sample of soil where you live now to a lab for testing and they will help you improve your soil to grow your Vine. I live in Spain I grow anything out here. ask me anything on Friut n Veg, n Vino.

I have my entire back deck lined with different vines, and they provide shade, fragrance, and privacy, and it can be done with poor soil, or in containers! Happy vining! :)

How well will Trumpet or Cross Vine bloom in filtered to heavy shade?

I understand that they bloom best, of course in sun, but that they still possibly bloom okay in shaded areas?

Anyone have experience or definite knowledge about this?

Thanks for your answers!

How well will Trumpet or Cross Vine bloom in filtered to heavy shade?
I agree that Trumpet vine is very invasive. It does bloom best in sun but also will bloom in shade. I have some planted in sunny area and also shady area. I wish I never planted this very pretty vine. It is very hard to maintain. You just can't get rid of it. I think maybe the roots travel outward. Fran
Reply:Agree with Wood with the exception of sun requirements. Trumpet vines prefer full sun. They grow very quickly and can become quite invasive self seeding themselves.
Reply:Both are quite happy in moderate shade, some sun is required for photosynthesis,to avoid the foliage yellowing and falling.

Common English ivy,(hedera) is a rampant plant which would compete with the above.

What did the first "Seedless" grape vine grow from?

?????????????

What did the first "Seedless" grape vine grow from?
seedless grapes are the result of cultivation of naturally occurring seedless plants

The common supermarket green seedless grapes are descended from a European seedless grape strain that probably originated between the Black and Caucasus Seas.

Grape growers spread this variety all over the world, and the same species exists under many different names. It has been grown in the United States since at least 1872 under the name Thompson. Other seedless grape varieties, even red and black varieties, are also descended from the Thompson. The Thompson has a genetic abnormality that causes the seeds to arrest development. Though the flower is pollinated and the ovum fertilized, the seeds stop growing after a few weeks. So, the grape is not entirely seedless; rather, the seeds are aborted, and exist as tiny specks inside the fruit. Commercial growers treat the plants with a growth hormone called gibberillin, which is normally secreted by developing seeds. The flowers are dipped or sprayed with the hormone so that the grapes grow big and juicy despite the arrested seeds.
Reply:Funny choice. He posted after me and took from my link. I did the homework he gets the best answer? Report It
Reply:a lab
Reply:Great question. I have often wondered about that. I will be interested to see a serious answer.
Reply:I once heard how seedless watermelons are produced. It is extremely complicated cross breading. The cells of the seedless watermelons end up having something like three nuclei (rather than the normal one). I know the conundrum you're getting at, but I can assure you it is probably just agricultural trickery.
Reply:The first seedless grape was probably a mutation. After it was discovered, it was probably asexually reproduced from cuttings of the original mutated plant. Grafting and rooting are common ways to grow grapes.

As far as seedless watermelons, they are not truly seedless, the seeds which are in it are small and don't have the usual brown/black seed coat. They are bred that way using cross pollination of specific parent breeds.

The navel orange is descended from a seedless orange tree found on a plantation in Brazil in the nineteenth century. This tree was a mutation, that is, something in its genetic material had spontaneously changed, resulting in this unique plant. Orange growers propagated new trees from the original navel, so that all the navel oranges available in markets today are descended from that Brazilian tree. The common supermarket green seedless grapes are descended from a European seedless grape strain that probably originated between the Black and Caucasus Seas.

Can i cut my passion flower vine right back as the trellis i grew it up has rotted and needs replacing?

the most common passion flower grown in our islands is the Passiflora caerulea, the Blue Passion Flower. This plant is a MUST for any type of British garden. I bought one last autumn for my granddaughter to plant. Unfortunately she planted it with a north east aspect, it has done well over the winter but recent frosts have put it back a touch. I have just moved it to the small patio (south west facing) where the missus and I spend nice summer afternoons. I have cut it down to 12'' above soil level. I have done this before in my previous garden, they grow away in spring like Jacks proverbial beanstalk. With better weather on the horizon, I

can imagine sitting there, telling my little girl the story, (myth) surrounding this amazing flower. (look it up)

Hoe in a long lasting fertiliser about now.

The flowers only last one day, but they're worth it.

Oh, I almost forgot, passilflora is NOT a vine.

Can i cut my passion flower vine right back as the trellis i grew it up has rotted and needs replacing?
Absolutely. Cut it down to approx' 4-6" above ground level. It should be cut like this every year or it becomes too leggy and looks awful. It grows back every year.
Reply:I would try and break the trellis away from the plant as carefully as you can without damaging it. If it's rotten it shouldn't be too difficult to break. You can then add a new one and tie the plant back to the trellis again. I've a passion flower on a trellis and never cut it back so far and it grows beautifully.
Reply:Yes . It will grow again
Reply:yes it is ok it will soon grow again.
Reply:yes for in about five months it would be well on its way to look like its been there for years
Reply:Normal practice with the Passion Flower,Passiflora,is to reduce the length of the stems by about a third. It's inadvisable to cut it down to ground level, this may kill it off.

Try to untangle two or three of the strongest growths, cut those back by a third and use your best judgement with the rest.
