Can i cut my passion flower vine right back as the trellis i grew it up has rotted and needs replacing?

the most common passion flower grown in our islands is the Passiflora caerulea, the Blue Passion Flower. This plant is a MUST for any type of British garden. I bought one last autumn for my granddaughter to plant. Unfortunately she planted it with a north east aspect, it has done well over the winter but recent frosts have put it back a touch. I have just moved it to the small patio (south west facing) where the missus and I spend nice summer afternoons. I have cut it down to 12'' above soil level. I have done this before in my previous garden, they grow away in spring like Jacks proverbial beanstalk. With better weather on the horizon, I

can imagine sitting there, telling my little girl the story, (myth) surrounding this amazing flower. (look it up)

Hoe in a long lasting fertiliser about now.

The flowers only last one day, but they're worth it.

Oh, I almost forgot, passilflora is NOT a vine.

Absolutely. Cut it down to approx' 4-6" above ground level. It should be cut like this every year or it becomes too leggy and looks awful. It grows back every year.
Reply:I would try and break the trellis away from the plant as carefully as you can without damaging it. If it's rotten it shouldn't be too difficult to break. You can then add a new one and tie the plant back to the trellis again. I've a passion flower on a trellis and never cut it back so far and it grows beautifully.
Reply:Yes . It will grow again
Reply:yes it is ok it will soon grow again.
Reply:yes for in about five months it would be well on its way to look like its been there for years
Reply:Normal practice with the Passion Flower,Passiflora,is to reduce the length of the stems by about a third. It's inadvisable to cut it down to ground level, this may kill it off.

Try to untangle two or three of the strongest growths, cut those back by a third and use your best judgement with the rest.
