My cantaloupes keep rotting on the vine?
If it has turned colors, You tell by placing your thumb alongside the stem and pressing gently if the melon presses in easily and if you get a good smell when putting your nose next to the melon at the stem, it is ripe. Note: If the melons are rotting prior to ripening, you may be watering too much or if watering at evening or night stop. Water early in the morning so the moisture is evaporated quickly from the plant.

Reply:You are suppose to stop watering cantaloupe 1 month before you pick them, this way the plant will release "sucrose" into the fruits and make them very sweet! Report It
Reply:Put some straw under them, or use poles and keep them of of the ground with a light fabric cradle, or old nylons.
Reply:when they easily come off the vine.
Reply:They will start to smell very good.

When they have the net pattern on them you can pull them abd let them ripen in the house.

They shouldn't rot if you pull them before they are fully ripe.
Reply:Laurence is on to something, but I would like to add to his answer. You can also use styrofoam plates or meat trays with holes punched in them to put under the fruits. The holes are necessary to get rid of standing water that may accumulate during rain or watering.
