I felt sorry for your vine till I started reading about it -- holy cow! Here's some advice (none of it easy) from the pros.

shoot it
Reply:weed killer
Reply:Cut it down to a stump and hammer a peice of copper piping into it, it poisons the mutha
Reply:cut it down and put tar over the stump.
Reply:Russians are stubborn with that. Entice it out with vodka, then snare it and have it deported.
Reply:We used to have one of those, they are thugs!!!

Please don't use tar in case you have cats nearby, it won't do them any good, and you may upset the neighbours! Just cut it down as low as you can from the main stem and keep an eye on it. If there are no new shoots coming back it will eventually die . Its no use trying to dig around it to get up the roots unless its fairly young, but even then the shoots can spread quickly. Just cut it back and get rid of what you can see. It worked for us and ours had gone quite mad. Ps. My husband is a gardener, if that makes you feel better, and try and avoid using any chemicals.

Hello Reg Can you tell me please how I can get rid of Russian Vine. It is taking over. Help!!!

Reg answers:

Hi Hazel,

It would be good to know where it is growing so that I could offer more concise advice. Generally speaking if the plant is growing on its own then spraying over the foliage with either Bio Glyphosate, Scotts Round-Up or Growing Success Deep Root should sort it out a lot. You should treat the plant as soon as possible now as the herbicide gets in via the foliage and that will be dropping in autumn.

Otherwise you could cut the plant down and dig up the roots during the winter period.

Russian vine grows at an alarming rate, about 15 ft per year, so it should never be planted in confined areas.

With Best Wishes,

Reg.
Reply:DRILL BIG HOLES IN THE ROOTS PUT A LOAD OF WEED KILLER IN HOLES LEAVE IT A FEW DAYS THEN ATTACK IT WITH A BIG PAIR WIRE CUTTERS.
Reply:dig/pull it out by the roots, or douse it with killzall or roundup type stuff
Reply:uproot it and then put a few kilos of salt in its place, wait for one winter and then plant something else.
