This strain of Ivy is called the Viginia Ivy, and it is always wet even in the best of our summers, it will gradually soak the mortar between all the bricks and stones of the wall it creeps up, and damage the walls too, better that you grow it on outbuildings or better still, A better creeper is Honeysuckle, the smell off this, is so very beautiful in late springtime, or, plant shrubs instead, as there are some really beautiful shrubs available in Garden Centres nowadays, some from all over the world, Thankyou for such a timely question, I hope my answer helps you. bye...Tony M...

Reply:its called the virginia creeper it looks nice but it eats away the mortar and causes the wood to rot as it is a sucker plant.
