Fruit and veg split after the compost has dried out and then been over watered, they are starved of food for a short time, once the plant seeks water it seeps as much as it can due to the fact it's been starved, therefore there's a sudden growth causing the skins to split as they don't have time to stretch in time for the flesh's growth.
My cardinal grape vine is growing well however the fruit has started to split why?
you must have been looking at it.

I find my tomatoes split when they get too much water
