Suggestions for ivie or vine (live) for a wall covering in my living room?

my living room gets direct sunlight from like 6 to 9 or 10 in the morning then it gets darker and darker till sunset. i am planning on making an automatic waterer (word?) so i would only have to deal with it once a month or so. i want this thing to cover my whole wall. i really dont want to have to use grow lights. would like to know scientific names or whatever i can use to look it up on ebay.

Ivy is probably not the best choice for growing indoors. It is subject to spider mites, which are very tiny, but seeable, that tend to infestate the underside of the ivy leaves. They build nasty little webs and eventually kill the ivy. You would constantly have to spray the underside of the leave w/ water to keep them at bay. this is a time consuming chore, especially if you are talking about a whole wall.

My grandmother used to grow a 'heartleaf philodendron' (hp) that climbed up her mantel to the crown molding and went all the way around the room! It is one of the easiest of all house plants to grow. it can be grown as as a climbing or trailing plant, depending on whether it's long stems are trained up supports or are allowed to trail over the rims of pots or hanging baskets. You have probably seen these plants on display at malls or a hotel atrium. You should probably pinch them regularly in order to keep them full otherwise they tend to grow long and skimpy. They like bright filters light, out of direct sunlight. They will grow in poor light but not as pretty. These are very common plants and can be found in most garden centers and nursuries or even at Walmart!!!

If you are wanting to grow a wall of philodendrons, you could purchase a section of latice, paint it to match the color of your wall and let the plant twine in and out of the lattice.
Reply:I have "night blooming jasmine" against a wall in a back room of my house, the room has indirect light for just a few hours in the morning.I have strung very fine wire from each floor planter to a very fine screw in hook in the ceiling above each plant. The jasmine has to be tied to the wire with green twist ties but it grows vertically and horizontally, allowing me to tie arms together

so most all of the wall is covered.Night blooming jasmine has small white aromatic flowers but the aroma will not overpower the room because the low light level will not allow it to flower to it's full potential.
Reply:try some sort of indoor creepers
Reply:Try wallpaper! Your plan sounds difficult and untidy.
Reply:Ivy is a very aggressive grower and, depending on the type of walls you have, drywall or plaster or something else, it may damage your walls. Probably the only type of wall that would stand up to ivy would be exposed brick. I have a philodendrum (spelling?) started growing up around an archway in my living room. All you need is a thin wire or string to train it up. Its a lot easier to grow than ivy and it tolerates indirect or full sunlight very well. Mine even seems to do better when I neglect it a little! They are very easy to grow from starts, so just buy one and keeping taking starts from it if you want another one. Just cut a trailer and put it on a window sil in a glass of water and plant it when it grows roots.
