25ft tall rose vine is killing my 35ft tree...?

How do I transplant it properly? The root is probably ginormous and it's on an incline.

What you have is a climbing rose. I would cut it back to about 5 or 6 feet to start with. Transplanting should be done between November and April depending on where you are to prevent shock. Transplanting when the plant is dormant is advisable. If you must do it now, you'll need to be careful. Take a round-point shovel or trenching shovel and etch a circle around the center of the rose about 3 to 5 feet in diameter. Then pry the root ball up, it may be heavy. Try to leave as many of the roots in place as possible, but you can use pruners to cut the long ones. It will take a lot of work doing this manually. Find a spot where the soil is rich and dark and it gets alot of sun. I would still wait until winter when it is completely dormant and you can take a lot more of the roots off and there is much less chance of shock.
Reply:Is this plant a vine or a rose, there aren't rose vines? If it is a rose they don't have that large or obnoxious root systems. Need more info. Is it a banksia rose more like a thicket of branches?
