How do i keep my melons (honeydew) dry while on the vine?

I'm growing honey dew melons, and don't know how to keep the melons dry while on the vine. The last time I grew them , they got soft spots on them. I tried to use cans to set them on, and straw. Does anyone know ?

Try making little "hammocks" out of chicken wire. This will allow the skins to breathe. Suspend the chicken wire from small squares you make yourself from spare 2 X 4's. They don't need to be any bigger than 1 ft square.
Reply:I sit mine up on large 3 pound coffee cans with out the straw. Turn them every so many days.
Reply:Towek them off well after showering , and keep people from licking them ...
