Invasive vine...?

Years ago we had a crabapple tree, but when it started to die, we chopped it. There were always some vines growing, but having four young kids, the area was always trampled. Since cutting the tree down these vines have taken over. Each year they spread more and more. I have no idea what they are or how to get rid of them. All I can tell you is that they have 'thorns'/'pricklies' on them. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. BTW I live in northern Vermont if that makes a difference.

Invasive vine...?
Have your county agent verify what vine you have - or just spray it with full strength apple cider vinegar - good weed control.

Or, cut it back and spray with something like "weed begone"!.

mow or till the area repeatedly.
Reply:Check with your city's preservation or streets department or your local wildlife office. If its that pervasive in your yard its probably a well known plant. They might be able to help you get rid of it. I'm trying to get rid of honeysuckle that is literally taking over my front and back yards!
Reply:Think I know the vine - couldn't find an image for you, can't remember the name. Heart shaped leaves, thorns similar to roses, creeps and crawls. Thought it was virginia snake vine, no results searching for image.

Suggest using a paintbrush to apply UNdiluted roundup to a few leaves.
Reply:Have you tried uprooting it? Chances are, the seeds are spreading. Try some weed-killer. Another thing that has worked for me is to grow some vine plants that you want (say: tomato) to strangle the unwanted plants.
