Please tell me howw long it takes a tomato to turn red on the vine.?

I am new to gardening. I read all the instructions and i planted the plants. They are huge. I have literally hundreds of tomatos. But they have been on the plant for over 2 weeks. When it sayd they mature in 65 days , does that mean that they will be ready in 65 days from the time i plant them or will they have to stay on the vine for 65 days untill they turn red?? Thanks spadesbouncer

tomatoes will ripen on or off the vine. they taste a little better ripened on the vine but you stand a greater chance of over ripening. if they are in the sun not long 1-2 weeks

pick several green and set them in kitchen on the window sill turn until ripe.
Reply:Just no set rules. There are many variables that determine ripening. Variety, temperature, moisture are the major fators. Just be patient they will come and then you will be wondering what to do with all of them. I garden in deep south TEXAS and raise tomatoes twice a year. Every season I am going to cut back on the amount of plants and it seems that everytime I just plant more. Then I have so many that I can not give them away. But patience is a virtue. Keep them moist and you will be rewarded.
Reply:the 65 daye is from the time the plants were set out. Once they are up to size, about 7-10 days
Reply:About two or three weeks.
Reply:It depends on how hot the nights are. If it is hot they will turn red sooner, it you are in a climate with cool night count on several weeks.
