What is a quick growing vine suitable for eastern Ontario?

I'm looking to create a bit of shade on the side of my porch. The dimensions to cover would be 8ft long and about 8 feet high.



I would like to know if there are any perennial vines or creepers that might do the job in one summer.



It would be in full sun with a good soil base (but I can prepare a bed based on recommendations). I'll be able to plant in April or May. Or if not a perennial, an annual would be fine too.

Hops or grapes have a big enough leaf to create some shade. Hops once established would easily cover that small of an area in one growing season. They love full sun and are pretty hardy. They do however like their roots to be cool. If you have a brewery close by they may be willing to share some of their hop rhizomes. Also check local homebrew shops they may be another local source. Otherwise most major mail order catalogs carry them.
