How do I get rid of Goathead? AKA Puncture Vine?

I had a massive attack of Goathead also known as Puncture Vine in my back yard. I killed it using Bayer which killed the weed and not the grass. What do I do now? Dig it up? Pull it? Leave it and let it dry? It hadn't gotten the little punctures on them yet but I have three dogs and I don't want it getting into their paws. Will it produce once it's dead and dry?

I had the same problem 3 yr,s ago. I used a small scoop and dug them up and burned all. Have not come back .I know this works and it was worth every curse word.
Reply:probably you will want to remove the weed because they leave a nut or tiny bulb under the ground and sometimes they can grow back even though you sprayed weed killer on it
Reply:Grab the plant at the middle and pull to get the root, throw away or burn. dont put it in compost pile. Dead goatheads are really seeds and last a long time.
