Once it starts blooming, it goes for most of the summer.

It grows FAST. Don't turn your back on it, or it'll jump out and eat you, and your porch. Or at least serruptitiously send a runner UNDER your porch, and up your house between the siding and the insulation.

Keep an eye on it, not only top growth - but along-the-ground runners. Those are the ones that will cause problems.

Okay. That said, around here (zone 5/6), it brings the hummingbirds down unlike anything else around here. I can sit on my back porch, and almost time the early-evening visits to my neighbor's vine. I love those birds.
Reply:Trumpet vines love the sun and the sweet nectar is wonderful. The flowers last for a long time and it's beautiful. I stuck a branch in the ground and 3 years later it had grown into a 4 foot bush. It's best not to plant the vine near the house because it will try to grow into your house. I had a tree that die, we pruned the tree 12 feet tall and made bird houses and attached to the limbs. I planted a trumpet vine and in 3 years the bird houses were shaded. It's one of my favorite fast growing, think big, lustrous and beautiful vines.
Reply:get a "madam galens" trumpet vine rather than the common trumpet vine. it will bloom better and won't be invasive.
Reply:It should begin to bloom a month or so after frost is gone and it begins to leaf out. In your area it should bloom until first frost. Yes it should grow in partial shade if it gets a few hours sun each day. And yes, it does grow fast. Be prepared to trim it, because it does tend to want to grow "wide" and get unruly. The hummingbirds love the blossoms as well as do the butterflys. It will drop leaves which need to be cleared away.
