Pontiac gen2 3.1L V6 vine code T.?

how much does it cost for a complete stock rebuild.

should I consider a junk yard engine. I don't have a lot of money so which way would be the best.

The reason that I'm asking is that my engine has a knock at cold start up and I have a bad lifter or a stuck valve (took off valve covers) and this thing has no power. The car itself is in very good shape.

if your capable the labor yourself, you could go with the parts.although if not, the labor is 15 hrs x shop rate($65 is the average) not counting removal and installation. junkyards are the best route for most intermediate mechanics with the downfall of the history of what your getting. most junkyards can tell you brief history such as milage and so forth., but not much more. one more thing to check before you purchase, the plastic plenum or upper intake manifold get holes in them from the catalylitic converter pluging which causes knocking sounds and absolutely no power at all.check towards the throttle body input. might be a wire covering it. if it was a stuck valve you would here excessive popping noises from the engine. hope this helps
Reply:you,ll be better off with a good used one that had low miles on it,,they can be really expensive to rebuild,,i own a repair shop,,and have built a few,and by the time i got done with them i had more in them,,than they was worth, i have bought a few good used ones and done better this way,,especially on a 3.1 there expensive to build anyway,id look and see what i could find before i even thought about building one,and if you find one make sure it has low miles on it,,otherwise you might be buying something worse than you have right now,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.
