What is the best and most beautiful and attractive climbing vine for a balcony?

I live in the second floor and I have a balcony that faces the west and I want to get a climbing vine that has beutiful flowers, beautiful color and fast growing.If there are pictures, I will be thankfull.

Is there a climbing vine that just climb around the vence of the balcony without climbing on the wall?

How long does a climbing vine need to grow?

I live in Kansas if that helps.

You have two broad choices -- an annual vine that is not frost-hardy but will grow fast and give you lots of flowers for one season then die, for example mandevillea, thunbergia ( Black-eyed Susan vine).



Or, you can grow a hardy vine that will survive frost and grow for many years, such as wisteria. The downside of perennial hardy vies is that their flowering season is shorter.
Reply:I once grew Morning Glory. Its has deep blue or red blooms with white in the middle. Grows real quick. But, somtimes, it really, really gets going and is hard to keep from climbing everywhere. You can start from seeds, about this time of year, and should be planted by the end of May. Just has to be kept moist in Summer. Good Luck
Reply:I grow a vine called a cypress vine that climbs over my porch. It is fast growing, yet light, with vivid red blooms that hummingbirds just love. There is another similar vine called the cardinal vine that closely resembles the cypress. The thing that differentiates them is the type leaf they produce.The cardinal leaf is broader than the cypress. It is easy to guide it where ever you like for it to grow, very flexible. It will not make it through the frosts of winter, but it reseeds itself and will come back strong next spring. After the first frost has hit, I usually just cut my down even with the ground. Reply:Whatever you do, do not plant a hummingbird vine/trumpet vine. They grow into everything....gutters, screens, in between wood....they damage things very easy.
Reply:In Kansas, probably a clematis of some type would be best. Wisteria would take over and be up the walls and everything. So would honeysuckle or trumpetvine.
Reply:mandevilla is your best climbing plant they are pretty and does not require much work with it I have 4 different color in my Terrace
