Please help! Should I get a Climbing Rose, or a Trumpet Vine?

For starters, I live in Ontario, Canada, and live close to Ottawa. The Rose or the Trumpet Vine will grow in partial shade near a fence that they can overtake. Can some one please give me some pros and cons for both? I would like it to bloom mid to late summer for a long time, and have nice, noticeable blooms. It would be great if it would grow really fast and really big and wide. I know this sounds bad, but I would like it to be invasive. What one should I get, a Climbing Rose, or a Trumpet Vine?

The trumpet vine will work better for you. It is NOT that invasive! It does grow fast, you can always trim it back each fall, so that it doesn't "weigh down" your fence, has NO THORNS, is not susceptible to black mold and crown rot like roses, and attracts hummingbirds NOT bees.

The rose will not "fill out" well or thickly in a short period of time. It can get very woody and hard to maintain if not "pampered" and it has thorns, can get black mold, crown rot (where it will die at the root) and attracts LOTS of bees!

Roses are not for beginners or those who want to plant and not continuously maintain....
Reply:I'd go with the rose. Trumpet vines can be very invasive and hard to control. Trumpets can also pull over fences, etc. with their weight.
Reply:I go with the vine. Sure it has draw backs. But it will look nicer
Reply:I'd go with the rose. Vines are so invasive, they are incontrollable.
Reply:Trumpet vines reseed themselves and come up everywhere! I once had them come up in my pool filter. I vote for the rose.
Reply:If you are looking for it to be invasive and grow wide go with the Trumpet Vine. They also attract hummingbirds.
