I found a nicely growing grape vine....?

What would be the best way to take from it to start my own grape vine at my home? I found it about 10 minutes from my house growing wildly.

If it is a wild vine, it probably isn`t any good for propagation. It probably started from seed carried by birds. Most vines today are hybrid, and are propagated through nursery cuttings, or selective hybridization, and if planted, the seed will revert to it`s inferior parent type. Did you see or taste the grapes? If you did, and they were good, by all means take a cutting. If not, it would be a shame to invest all that time and effort, (It will take 1-2 years to begin to produce fruit), only to end up with a vine producing grapes not fit to eat.
Reply:Why not try starting a clipping in water to grow roots?
Reply:The runners from grapevines will travel along the grounde and root themselves. See if you can find a slip that already has roots, cut it getting a good set of roots and replant.
Reply:First of all, even if growing in what you think is the wild, you need permission from the landowner to take a clipping or seeds.



Second, make sure it is a grape. There are some wild vines that look like grapes that are not grapes and are poisonous.



Wild grapes can get very large and are often not very tasty. You would be better off buying a named grape from a garden centre, they are not expensive.
