How many watermelons per vine?

How many fruit does the typical watermelon vine, more specifically Crimson Sweet, produce by the harvest?

I have ample space and water. What is the maximum number each plant can support, and what would be the average?

How many watermelons per vine?
COMERICAL GROWERS THIN FRUITS TO NO MORE THAN 2 MELONS PER VINE, IN ORDER TO GET LARGER FRUITS. HOME GARDEN MELONS CAN BE THINED TO BOUT 4 TO 6 DEPENDING ON HOW HEALTHY THE VINE IS, HOW MUCH WATER IT RECIEVES, AND NUMBER OF HOT DAYS AND NIGHTS IT GETS. IN MISSISSIPPI WE PLANT THEM IN HILLS 6 TO 12 FEET APART, WITH 6 TO 8 SEEDS PER HILL, AFTER FIRST TRUE LEAVES SHOW THEY ARE THINNED TO 4 OR 5 PLANTS PER HILL. GRADUALLY THINNING THEM TIL ONLY 1 OR 2 HEALTHY PLANTS ARE LEFT. A PH OF 5.5 TO 6.5 IS PREFERRED, IN DOING ALL THIS YOU SHOULD GET BOUT 3 OR 4 GOOD SIZE MELONS PER VINE.
Reply:I grew one plant last year that took off like crazy, I got 5 or 7 watermelon's off of the vine, but I had planted too late in the season and only one turned somewhat red inside.
Reply:If you use compost you will get the best results. Have you had the soil tested? Acidity affects growth as well. Anywhere from 3 to 12 depending on these factors.
Reply:Sounds like you have good conditions. Crimson sweet typically has about 6. Other kinds may be different. I grew sugar Baby and got as many as 12. Black Diamond only had 2-3, but they were about 60Lbs. each.
