What is a good vine to plant to act as a screen for a chain link fence? Flowering is better but not is ok.?

I have an older (see ugly) chain link fence. I am thinking of planting a vine to cover it. What would be a good choice for this? Flowering is better, and quick growth is best...

I'm doing the same thing this summer, my plan is grapes and clematis for the sunnier area and maybe an ivy where there is more shade. i'm also in zone 6.
Reply:If you want quick growth, one answer is English Ivy. The bad news is that English Ivy is invasive and tends to overgrow. If you can isolate the Ivy from moving elsewhere. Also, it doesn't flower.

Another vine that I like is the Passion Flower. Large, intricate and very beautiful flowers.
Reply:Some of the other plants already suggested are somewhat slow to get themselves established. If you want to get something growing that will quickly provide good coverage, you could plant morning glories. They are an annual, they can seed themselves, and they have pretty flowers.

However, because they are an annual, they will die off in the winter. They will come back the following spring due to the seeds they have spread.
Reply:I have honeysuckle growing on my fence.

Virginia creeper is fast, but it doesn't flower.

You will need to know what USDA planting zone you are in to find something that will work in your area.
Reply:Grapes cause you can eat some of your fence when you get hungry and its viney. Just dont plant marijuana cause your fence is gonna get smoked!
Reply:Depends on where you live. In the south, carolina jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens) is a very popular native, evergreen vine that has yellow flowers in early spring.

Reply:You don't indicate your plant zone, I'm zone 5 and depending on where you live I think a clematis is nice you can plant different varieties so they flower at different times. But this vine loses its foliage during the fall/winter. It is not invasive and comes in a large variety of colors. They are pretty easy to care for, just read the package instructions, plant and watch them grow. Usually they get flowers by the second year. Honeysuckle is pretty too, but kind of messy.

Good luck,

Donna
Reply:Honeysuckle is fantastic. It gives very fragrant flowers, has full foliage, and is not dangerous for children or pets.

As a child, my siblings, cousins, and I would pull the stamen from the center of the flower and lick off the honey flavored liquids. We loved it and it brings back fond memories of my childhood whenever I smell honeysuckle now.

Below are a couple of sites that tell you about honeysuckle and where you can buy it online.
Reply:is it possible to make a 5 foot high chainlink fence into a concrete wall?...I figured using 1/4 plywood on both sides and reinforcing it with rebar into the ground every 6 feet or so....ANY IDEAS ON THIS?????
